HiMSS19: Focus on unblocking patient information

PARCA eNews – Mar. 1, 2019 – The mammoth HiMSS19 annual meeting wrapped up Feb. 15, 2019 in Orlando, Fl with more than 43,000 attendees, 1200 vendors and a wide array of panel discussions and educational meetings.

Key themes of the meeting continued from years past with unblocking patient information, interoperability, workflow, and technology to improve healthcare vying for the spotlight.

In terms of interoperability the consensus seemed to be that despite past efforts there is still a ways to go to achieve full interoperability.

As to patient-centered healthcare, HHS Secretary Alex Azar’s keynote address focused on empowering patients with greater access to information, including price. How that is to be carried out and how much information patients need and want remains to be defined.

In terms of tech, Cerner debuted Chart Assistant a workflow add-on to its EMR that provides clinical registry data and warehousing tools to fully automate data acquisition, storage and retrieval. In addition Artificial Intelligence continued its dominance in the "what’s new and cool" department.
